Development Lions Beat Ladder-Leaders in Close Finish

Coburg’s Development Lions have beaten ladder-leaders Port Melbourne by one point in a nail-biting finish this morning at Piranha Park.
Down by five points with time running out on the clock, tall forward Alex Mioni’s late goal after a strong mark took the boys to their fourth win of the season, closing the game 10.8 (68) to 9.13 (67).
The Borough’s slow start and inaccurate kicking kept them goal-less for the first term, but stole the Lion’s hard-earned lead for the next two changes.
A run-down in defence from Rivva Karpany in the dying minutes saved a potential Port goal, which would have ended the game.
The Lions upped the intensity and pressure when it was needed, and paid off for them in the end.
James Svarc booted a goal each quarter, while Patrick Lawlor, Jack Sandric, Jackson McDonald and Ricky Schraven dominated the disposals in the second half.
A deserving win for the Development boys, it’s sure to give them some confidence going into next week’s match against Sandringham.
Come down to Trevor Barker Beach Oval from 11am to show your support for the Coburg boys.
