Development Lions Leave Chase Too Late

An exciting five-to-two goal final term from the Development Lions wasn’t enough to get the win against Williamstown, going down by 38 points on Sunday morning at Piranha Park.
Despite a slow start, Coburg’s attack on the ball and pressure across the entire ground meant they were able to slightly close the 59 point margin from three-quarter time; finishing 8.10 (58) to 14.12 (96).
Showing more fight than the first half, the second half of play saw two back-to-back goals from Cassidy Haberfield and Ricky Schraven instil some well-needed momentum and confidence early.
Halfway through the fourth Rivva Karpany, Karl Brown, and James Svarc kicked three quick goals in succession, leaving the Seagulls score-less since the 21 minute mark of the third quarter.
The conditions proved tricky when the rain set in, but the Lions seemed to adjust well.
Last week’s best-on-ground Matt Merlo led the way for disposals (20), followed closely by tall forward Alex Mioni (18), and Connor Byrne and Karl Brown (both 17).
Round 17 next Saturday sees Coburg travel to North Port Oval to take on ladder leaders Port Melbourne.
Sure to be a tough match, the Development Lions will be looking to keep their finals hopes alive with an upset win.
Come down to get behind the Burgers in what may be their last few games of the season!
