The Coburg Lions development side have been knocked out of final contention, going down to Port Melbourne by 72 points at the Whitten Oval.
The Development side only had a four goal buffer to play with to qualify themselves for finals, however struggled to hit the scoreboard all game against a strong Port outfit.
Top up player Dom Brew was impressive through the midfield, assisted by Wunhym (19 touches) and Valeri (17 touches), while Joel Madden made the most of his move forward kicking two goals.
Both sides had their chances early on in a tight contest. Port able to adjust to the large whitten oval quickest, taking full advantage of their goal scoring opportunities.
Top up player Tom Keys providing the only highlight for the Lions quarter, keeping them in touch with Port, who lead by 20 at the first break.
The Borough opened up the Lions in an onslaught second term, retaining possession of the football by foot taking uncontested marks across the ground allowing them to pile on 5 straight goals.
Ricky Schraven ended Ports run but they would answer back immediately to lead by 58 points at the half.
The trend continued in the third quarter, with the Bourough turning the contest into a training drill, amassing 32 more uncontested marks and 25 more contested possessions
The Lions having a brief patch of shine towards the end of the quarter, stopping Port Melbourne from blowing the margin completely out, 63 points the gap.
Coburg couldn’t rise to the challenge in the final quarter with Port running home another four goals to win by 73 points, knocking the Lions out of finals contention.
