Lions left wanting against Seagulls

The Development Coburg Lions has slumped to their fourth consecutive loss, against the Williamstown Seagulls at Burbank oval.

The Dev team, who kept with the Seagulls for the first half, were left wanting in the second as the Gulls ran home 12 goals to 1 in a dominating performance.

Michael Ercolano has plenty of the ball through the middle (28 disposals, 2 goals) assisted by Rick Schraven while Kyle Staples kicked two up forward and Conor Dalgleish held down the back line.

The Lions had the majority of play in an open first quarter, unable to capitalise on the score board, 3 behinds and an out on the full keeping Willy in the game.

Good transition play creating scoring opportunities for the Lions, however, Willy kicked truly to tie the scores up late in the term.

Kyle Staples got back to his goal kicking ways to have the Lions up by a goal at the first change.

Poor ball use in the back half cost Coburg early on in the second as Williamstown took the lead.

The visitors would capitalise on a down field free kick, however, it only sparked the Gulls, who would lead by 12 points at the main change.

Williamstown stepped it up in the opening 10 minutes of the third quarter, running home three goals in quick succession to blow out to a 29 point advantage.

A running goal from Michael Ercolano the only shining light in a dark term, as Williamstown kicked majors at will, to lead by 35 points at the last change.

Williamstown continued the domination in the last quarter, keeping Coburg goalless while running home another 8 of their own, eventually coming out 78 point winners.

The Development and Senior sides will take on Frankston this Saturday at Piranha Park, in the last home game of the season.
