Three young Lions confirm their re-commitment to the club for 2017.

Ercolano & Wunhym (1)As the three quarter mark of the 2016 season has been reached, we’re delighted to announce the re-commitment of three of the club’s brightest youngsters have recommitted for the 2017 season.

Michael Ercolano came to Coburg for 2016 after a 2015 season with the Northern Knights where he was rewarded with a 3rd place finish in the best and fairest behind Jade Gresham and Brayden Fiorini who were both drafted at the end of that season. Making his debut in the big round six win over Essendon, Ercolano has managed five senior games and been amongst the sides better performers in the Development League side so far this season.

Like Ercolano, Josh Iacobaccio came to Piranha Park having captained the Northern Knights in the 2014 season. Managing to make his senior debut for the club in round 3, 2015, Iacobaccio managed nine games in his debut season and played a key role in the development leagues march towards the competitions Preliminary final of that season. The 2016 season has seen him make further inroads- establishing himself as a permanent fixture in the side down back.

Zak Wunhym made his senior debut for Coburg in the Round twelve win against Werribee as the 23rd man after weeks of solid form in the Development League, having endured small injury setbacks throughout the pre-season and early on in the 2016 campaign. In his four senior games for the Lions so far, Wunhym has averaged 21 possessions and has also managed one goal to his name- from a crucial set shot in the sides epic round 13 win over Footscray. Wunhym was also among the first Calder Cannons group from 2015 to have signed for the 2016 season.

Club List Manager Sebastian Spagnuolo was delighted to have the trio commit to the club for the following season with five rounds remaining in the season.

“We’re really happy to announce the re-signing of these players this week. They are a show of faith by the players that they believe in the direction that the club is headed. The club is very much after a unified playing group to take it forward and to the next level so this is another step in the right direction and we’re hopeful of making more re-signings within the near future.”

These three players affirming their re-commitment to play their football at Piranha Park for the 2017 season brings it to four- joining key leadership group member and forward Danny Younan.

The club are hopeful of announcing a few more re-signings within the next few weeks as we look towards the business end of the season for 2016.
