Lion of Round 14: Nathan Blair

The Melbourne Laser & Skin Clinic Lion of the Round this week has been named as Nathan Blair, after his persistent performance in Saturday’s loss to Footscray.
The 22-year old, who entered his fourth season at the club this year, managed to record 16 disposals, lay seven tackles and boot one goal.
“I was pretty happy with my game on the weekend, being able to contribute both offensively and defensively this week, and it’s always nice to kick a goal.” Blair said.
One of the most experienced players on the list this year, his hard work in previous seasons earned him a spot in the 2017 Leadership Group, which has been “a little different” for him.
He’s found he’s had to come out of his comfort zone, and has tried to give more voice and direction on the field alongside his other Leadership Group members.
This weekend sees Coburg go up against Casey Demons, and after losing to them by just three goals back in Round 7, hope to turn the tables when they meet again.
“We have a great challenge against Casey.” Blair said.
“I believe we need to come ready to play some high pressured and team defence football; from my time at Coburg, we have had some of our best wins playing this way.” he continued.
Hoping to build on his performance from Saturday, Blair wants to work hard to beat his opponent, and then “be ready to run and provide options”.
“By doing this hopefully it will contribute to a good win this week.”
With just five games to go for season, the versatile defender hopes to carry over what he has been focussing on this year into the remaining matches.
“I’ve aimed to be more attacking from the backline and also lead more during games.”
“I’ll aim to continue this for the rest of the season and definitely keep improving on it for next year.”
In the Development League’s 10-point win over Sandringham, Head Coach Paul ‘PK’ Kennedy named Mitch Conn as best-on-ground.
“Mitch really got on top of Ben Long, and has shown incredible improvement this year from a purely attacking defender to one who can beat high-quality opponents one-on-one.” the Head Coach said.
Coburg will go up against Casey at Casey Fields at 2pm on Sunday, with the earlier Development League match to start at 11am.
