Local League Lions: Round Sixteen

BY BROOKE VARNEY.
Coburg representatives continue to impress in their local league matches, with many earning themselves not just the win but also a best-on-ground performance this past weekend.
Starting with the EDFL, Tom Wallis and Lachy Mitchell paired up for Essendon Doutta Stars. After ending a 12-game losing streak last weekend, the Doutta Stars finished as winners again, beating Avondale Heights by 23 points. Wallis kicked one goal, and was named one of the Stars’ better players as the Stars make a late season charge towards avoiding relegation from Premier Division.
Tom Condon and Strathmore also had a day out against Glenroy, with Condon kicking four goals in the 55-point victory. His efforts also saw him listed among Strathmore’s best.
Moving to the Northern Football League, Aidan Tilley featured in a big West Preston-Lakeside victory over Hurstbridge, and managed two goals in the 112 point win. Daman Aujla (one goal) and Bundoora weren’t so lucky however in their 96-63 loss to Macleod.
Sam Binion and Montmorency fell nine points short to Whittlesea in their clash, but was recognised for his performance and named among the best.
Lachlan Wilson and Heidelberg were beaten by 33 points by cross-town rivals North Heidelberg. Despite the loss, Wilson kicked one goal and was named the Heidelberg’s second best player.
In the Eastern Football League, Alex Mioni and Norwood came very close to overcoming the reigning premiers South Croydon, losing by just three points.
Over in the Southern Football Netball League, Josh Fox and Cheltenham managed to keep East Malvern score-less in the final term in a come-from-behind victory. Fox booted one goal in the narrow four-point win.
Returning from injury, Max Mitchell-Russell played his part for Port Melbourne Colts in their three-goal loss to St Pauls.
To round up the weekend, in the Ballarat Football League, Mark Orr and Melton had a 57-point win over cross-town rivals Melton South. Orr managed one goal.
With Coburg having a bye this upcoming weekend, expect to see a number of our players feature for their respective local sides, with the prospect of a larger update next Monday!
