Local League Lions: Week One Finals

BY BROOKE VARNEY.
September is finally here, and a few Lions have found themselves lucky enough to be representing their local clubs in the first week of finals.
In the Essendon District Football League (Division 2), Brad Bernacki and East Sunbury knocked Moonee Valley out of the finals race, defeating them by 26 points in an elimination final.
The margin was less than 10 points at each break, with East Sunbury finally able to kick away in the last quarter.
Bernacki played his role on the day, and was named best on ground for his efforts.
In the Northern Football League (Division 1), Aidan Tilley, Mark Kovacevic and West Preston-Lakeside went down to North Heidelberg by 32 points in a qualifying final. Kovacevic booted one goal and was named best on ground.
Luckily the Roosters will get a second chance at their run, and will face Bundoora next week in a semi-final.
Speaking of Bundoora, Josh Iacobaccio and Daman Aujla paired up for the Bulls in their elimination final against Greensborough, winning by 48 points.
Iacobaccio kicked two majors to go with Aujla’s one, and was also named best on ground on the day.
Stay tuned for more on the Local League Lions as they attempt to progress to their Grand Finals!
