Rising Vermont key back to join stocks

staplesVermont youngster Kyle Staples has committed to Coburg for the 2016 VFL season, officially becoming Coburg’s first new signing of the off-season.

Staples, 20, played four years of TAC Cup football with Eastern Ranges initially as a key forward before spending the last two seasons with Vermont in the Eastern Football League developing his talent as Vermont’s major defensive stopper.

He developed into one of the league’s best young key defenders in 2015, representing his club in the 30-man EFL Division 1 Team of the Year squad.

“Had some mates down at the club and I’m really keen to get going.” Staples said.

Staples becomes the third player on Coburg’s list to hail from the Eagles, following up from Lachlan Johns and Rory Lehmann joining the Lions last season.
