Seagulls run over the top of Development Lions

The Development Coburg Lions has lost to the Williamstown Seagulls at Burbank Oval.

The Development side, who were slow to start, lead at the final change before Williamstown took advantage of a  slight last quarter wind, lifting the intensity to run over the top in the final term.

Jackson Clarke lead the defensive effort, while Tom McConville impressed on return, aided by Micheal Ercolano and Mark Kovacevic.

On the almost perfect day for football, the game started with both sides adjusting to the slight offshore wind, stoppage after stoppage slowing the contest to a grind.

Williamstown kicked the first of the day, however, it only sparked the Lions who would kick a wonderful goal from the centre bounce before Connor Dalgleish diligently slotted from the boundary to give the visitors a lead.

Coburg would continue the surge forward through the wind to take a valuable 7 point lead at the first break.

The game opened up in the second with Williamstown capitalising on some poor Coburg disposal to lock the ball into their attacking half. Poor accuracy keeping them from taking a big lead .

Better use of the football in transition across Burbank Oval having the Lions up by just two points at the main change.

Both sides shared the spoils early in the third, inaccurate kicking on either end keeping both from breaking ahead.

Coburg took advantage of a slight wind, moving the ball freely for the first time in the game, to go ahead by 15 points, the biggest margin of the day, thanks to some straight shooting from Kalanj, McConville and Holdsworth.

Williamstown started the final term with a greater hunger, goaling twice in the opening 5 minutes, asking the question of the young Lions, before taking the lead thanks to a wind assisted snap.

The home side further capitalised on some poor disposal out of the back half, with Coburg pushing, the damage had been done, Willy icing the game to run out eventual 16 point winners.
