Senior Lions Outrun by Tigers

The Coburg Seniors have been defeated 18 points in a hard-fought final term in their NAIDOC Week clash with Werribee Tigers at Piranha Park this afternoon.
With the Lions leading by a single point at three-quarter time, Werribee snatched the lead in the early minutes of the last term, ultimately finishing 12.15 (87) to 10.9 (69).
Some positive signs were seen in the first half, where the Lions looked strong and accurate on goal, kicking five straight.
Taking the game on with fast running and quick handballs, Coburg was able to maintain possession for majority of the second quarter.
A nice snap from Hisham Kerbatieh on the half-time siren gave the Senior Lions momentum going forward, with vice-captain Peter McEvoy and captain Tom Goodwin kicking the first two goals of the second half.
But unfortunately Werribee had upped their intensity; the speed seeming to catch Coburg off-guard initially.
Not even 50-gamer Sean Gregory’s strong marks in front of goal could save the Lions’ lead, with the Tigers going on to kick four-goals to one in the last quarter.
Kerbatieh, McEvoy and Aidan Tilley were dual goal-kickers for the day, while Nick Mellington (28 disposals), Luke Bunker (27 disposals) and Josh Iacobaccio (21 disposals) did damage in their respective zones.
Next week the Coburg Seniors have a bye, but will be ready for the action in two weeks time against reigning premiers Footscray.
