Western Australian Ruckman chooses Coburg.

20160217_173930Coburg are pleased to announce they have acquired the services of Tim Sutherland for 2016.
Tim is a 196cm ruckman who has managed 47 WAFL Colts matches since 2011, and 43 WAFL reserves matches since 2013 for West Perth. A former Western Australian State representative at under 18 level, Tim was the side’s number 1 ruckman throughout the 2012 Under 18 championships. Tim is also equally capable of playing at key position posts at either end of the ground.
With West Perth boasting the likes of Chris Keunen in the ruck, as well as Nick Rodda, Tyler Kietel, Michael Lourey and the recently drafted Marcus Adams in key position posts at both ends of the ground, and as a result it saw Tim serve out a lengthy apprenticeship in the reserves after graduating from the Colts. Eventually, he would make his senior debut in the second last round of the 2015 season where he performed admirably well, and would retain his position in the side for the next week only to lose his place for the finals series.
Having moved to Melbourne to complete his university studies, Tim was recommended to the club by West Perth coach Bill Monaghan, who was current senior coach Peter Germans right hand man as senior assistant coach in both of Subiaco’s 2004 and 2006 premierships coached by German.
Burgers’ list manager Sebastian Spagnuolo was delighted to have secured Tim’s signature following his arrival in Melbourne. “We’re really excited to have Tim on board for 2016. He brings experience of being involved in a successful WAFL environment and we believe he can go on to play some good senior footy for Coburg. His flexibility in being able to play ruck as well as either key back or forward will mean with continual improvement he should see some opportunity at our club.”
Tim’s acquisition at Piranha Park sees him add considerably to the club’s key position stocks and will provide competition in the ruck alongside the likes of Tom Goodwin, Mark Kovacevic, Mark Orr and George Romios. We are delighted to have Tim committed for the 2016 season.
