Burgers to head off to bush battle!

The Coburg Football Club is pleased to confirm to it’s Members and Sponsors that the Men’s team will be heading to the regional town of Longwood for it’s official 2021 intra-club practice match. On Saturday March 13th the Men’s team players and staff will be making the trip up the Hume Highway with the intra-club practice match starting at 12pm and featuring 4 x 20min quarters.

Coburg FC members, supporters and connected families are welcome to make the trip to Longwood and support the fantastic football loving community.

Upon making the trip and match official, Coburg FC General Manager Sebastian Spagnuolo explained the reason behind selecting Longwood as the intraclub match destination  “Many involved in our club would know who Chris “Narra” Lalor is but if you don’t, “Narra” is a Life Member of the Coburg Football Club and has supported the club for over 50 years.

In 2018 “Narra” made the move to Longwood and has settled there ever since which has meant that he hasn’t been able to attend as many Coburg games as he used to, so we are so pleased and proud that we can make his day by bringing the team to his new home town.

With many suitable football ovals in Melbourne being largely unavailable due to cricket and the demand on them by AFL, VFL and Community level clubs, we felt we needed to think creatively and search elsewhere for a venue, so with the link to Narra, and with support from the Longwood community, there was no better location for us”

Spagnuolo went on to say “On behalf of the Coburg Football Club I’d like to thank Longwood Football Netball Club’s President Ricki Shiner and the Strathbogie Council for their hard work in preparing the facility and oval to be in great condition for our intraclub practice match and also for welcoming us to their very special part of Victoria.”

“We encourage all Coburg FC members to join us in Longwood on March 13th 2021, watch the game, support the Longwood Football Club’s canteen, BBQ and bar and even to head over to the White Hart Hotel for a meal before heading back home to Melbourne”

For the Men’s team players and staff the intraclub match is sure to provide a beneficial hitout as the team prepares to take on the Geelong VFL team the following week on Saturday March 20th, but also provides another opportunity for our club to connect to a footy loving community and town like Longwood.
