In player recruiting news, Aaron Clarke becomes the club’s 30th contracted player for the 2020 VFL season.   Aaron, 19, is a 194cm key forward with great marking skills and has been a prolific NAB League goalkicker over the past two seasons with the Western Jets.

Originally from the Melton South Football Club, Aaron will be looking to make the step to VFL football and continue with his development with our club following his graduation from the NAB League.

With Melton South in the ultra-competitive Ballarat Football League, Aaron has played 12 senior games of football for a return of 20 goals including a bag of 5 goals in round 8 2019 against Bacchus Marsh.

We welcome Aaron to our club and to our forward line for the 2020 VFL season and look forward to having him out on the track for preseason which commences on Monday 25th November 2019.

When asked about Clarke’s signing, Lions coach Andrew Sturgess said “Aaron is a young, key position forward that has a unique competitive nature to the way he plays his football. That really excites us that Aaron is instinctively competitive and wants to win.

His characteristics on the field of having the ability to take strong, contested marks as well as hit and mark the ball on the lead with sticky hands is going to be exciting to watch.

The beauty about Aaron is his youth. He has so much to offer right now, yet has so much more improvement and upside in him to come. We are excited to have Aaron join our club and we look forward to him representing the Lions for many years to come.”

Upon putting pen to paper with Coburg, Clarke said “I’ve always wanted the opportunity to play and train at a VFL club, and I really feel I developed as a player last year during the six week period I had at Coburg, and it was a great vibe, so it feels like the right place for me”

“I’m keen to play against VFL players every week and make that step up from NAB League and local footy. It’s a traditional and proud club, and I’m keen to be a part of the team under Sturg”
