Classy Scorpions dismantle Lions



The Casey Scorpions have defeated the Coburg Lions by 76 points at Piranha Park.

The Scorpions lead from siren to siren, dismantling the Lions between the arcs while starving them of the football, racking up a massive 172 more disposals and 90 more uncontested marks.

Robert Fox was a stand out in his return (16 contested possessions, 5 clearances),  Rory Lehmann was the pick of the backmen (4 marks 4 rebound 50’s) while Lech Featherstone lead well up forward.

Casey pressed forward early on in a tightly contested 1st term, with red hot pressure around the contest for the opening five minutes.

The Scorpions able to take an 11 point lead, which they would hold till the 25th minute mark of the first quarter, locking the ball into their offensive fifty.

Some poor accuracy (9 behinds) from the Scorpions keeping them from a bigger quarter time lead of 15 points.

Dean Terlich kick consecutives to open the second term, extending the margin to 27 points, 10 minutes in.

A late Dion Hill major brining the deficit to 5 goals at the main change.

Coburg were able to answer an early Viv Mitchie bomb from the centre square, however, it only sparked the Scorps who would run in another four consecutive goals.

Casey continued to starve the Lions, sharing and spreading the ball at will, running home 4 more to open up a 77 point lead at three quarter time.

The Lions were challenged by Senior coach Peter German to lift in the final term, winning the final term. However, the damage was already done, the Scorpions running out eventual 76 point winners.

The Seniors will head to the Holden Centre next Saturday (6th August) while the Development side will play Williamstown at Burbank Oval on Sunday (7th August).
