Club Update From The General Manager – 15th June

Monday 15th June 2020

The Coburg Football Club welcomes the Victorian Government’s announcement on Sunday 14th June that included this information relevant to our football club.

Full contact training for adults can resume on July 13th 2020 and sporting competitions such as the VFL can resume from July 20th 2020.

As these dates approach, Coburg FC will work with AFL Victoria and all VFL clubs to create and adhere to Return to Play protocols and guidelines to keep players and staff safe.

In more great news for our VFL players, coaches and staff, non-contact training (in groups of 20) will commence on Tuesday 16th June and the team will be training on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at a venue in Oak Park. We are appreciative of the Moreland City Council’s efforts to try and find us a suitable training venue with Piranha Park closed. We have over 20 people (players, coaches and staff) within the club that have completed a Covid-19 infection control training course and we are confident of creating a safe environment for our people. Unfortunately, training is not open to visitors at this stage.

Our Junior EDFL team’s will also start non-contact training on Tuesday 16th June at a venue in Coburg and all player parents have been sent the protocols that need to be adhered to which will ensure community safety. Again, we appreciate the support from the Moreland City Council for their help in finding a ground for the Juniors to use in 2020. Full contact training can commence from 22nd June 2020 and competition can commence from July 20th too.

With the VFL competition, we are hopeful of having a decision about the competition within the next week but there’s growing optimism that a season can commence in 2020.

To our members, sponsors and supporters, thank you again for your commitment to our club and patience in this process that we’ve been part of since March 2020 and we can’t wait to hopefully share some great news with you soon.

Lastly, we encourage all players, staff, members and family members connected to our club to download the Covid-19 safety app and continue to follow the Governments restrictions that are in place.

Carn the Lions!
