The five stand alone VFL Clubs: Coburg, Frankston, Port Melbourne, Werribee and Williamstown; together with the three AFL aligned Clubs: Box Hill, Casey and Sandringham; have been working together extensively to determine how a VFL season could be realised in 2020.
Our Clubs have been meeting at least once a week for several weeks now, to focus on the financial viability of a season commencing. Two working groups have been established to explore all potential revenue opportunities and cost structures. This is important in light of current Government restrictions potentially remaining in place that would preclude crowds attending games in 2020.
Our Clubs have also liaise closely with the AFL on a weekly basis, to assist with information and support for the concept.
As soon as this analysis is complete and we understand the Government restrictions moving forward, we will be able to announce a position on the commencement of a VFL season for 2020 or otherwise.
The club will continue to create opportunities for our sponsors, members and players to stay connected and engaged with the club as we have been. We are proud of the way that our people and Lions community have shown great resilience to work through the Covid-19 challenge and we encourage all stakeholders to remain connected and where possible, support the various club fundraising and social media initiatives that you come across to keep our club strong, connected and financially stable without the traditional football club revenue streams that we’ve been used to.
Till we can be together at the footy again, stay safe and go the Lions
