Coburg has signed former college basketball athlete Trent Warren for the 2022 VFL season.
At 198cm, Warren is a versatile player with the ability to be used in multiple positions.
Warren played both football and basketball during his youth before receiving a scholarship to play in the US.
The 24-year-old returned to Australia in 2020 after playing basketball at both Peninsula College in Port Angeles, Washington and California State in San Francisco. In 2021, Warren signed with the Box Hill Hawks.
Warren said he is looking to play a role in helping the team achieve success.
“I am very excited to be joining Coburg, to join a program with such rich history and well run organization makes me feel very privileged,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to doing whatever it takes to help the team earn that much deserved spot in the finals come September.”
“Throughout conversations with the staff I have felt they are really trying to build a consistent powerhouse in the VFL which was very appealing to me, the club’s beliefs and values really aligned with my own.”
“I plan on bringing a lot of the values which have allowed me to have a lot of success prior, bringing high standards to the team, very competitive on the field, unselfish in the sense of doing anything I can to help the Lions win.”
General Manager Sebastian Spagnuolo said the club can’t wait to get to work with Warren.
“To add a player and person like Trent to our list, with the experiences that he has and with his maturity and will to compete is really exciting for us,” he said.
“Following on from the flexibility theme of recent signing announcements, Trent is 198cms and can play in many positions around the ground. This flexibility should hold him great stead as he works hard to find a way into our starting 23 each week.”
