The Coburg Lions development side have gone down to a resilient Northern Blues outfit by 24 points, at Ikon Park.
On a dewy Good Friday morning the Blues side held off multiple surges from the Lions, converting more efficiently in a 24 point win.
First quarter play was end-to-end with the Blues managing cleaner possession converting the first goal of the game.
Play continued in a similar fashion until Jake Kalanj managed to pick out Rhys Free in the forward 50, who slotted home diligently from the pocket.
Keenan Posar finished off some tidy midfield work to goal before the Blues hit back with the next two goals to end the first quarter.
Brandon Bailey started the second with a running goal, however continued Blues midfield pressure saw them pile on two consecutive majors with Richie Bamblett converting a free kick to stem the flow.
Increased midfield pressure from the likes of Ricky Schraven and Tom McConville saw the development Lions go into the half trailing by 12 points.
Scrappy loose ball play saw the Blues start the third quarter well, before goals to Kalanj and Free reduced the margin to 10 points mid-way through the term.
Jake Kalanj slotted his second of the quarter off the back of some Dylan Tarczon grunt work to bring the margin within a goal for the first time in two terms.
The blues converted diligently throughout the last term kicking 3 goals to the Lions none to run out eventual four goal winners.
The senior Coburg Lions side will play Collingwood VFL tomorrow (26th March) with both sides heading to Frankston next Saturday (April 2nd).
