Development Lions slump to sharp Scorpions

The Development Coburg Lions has had their first lost in 7 games against the Casey Scorpions at Piranha Park.

The Development Lions were dominated around the grounds by a well drilled Casey outfit, who racked up almost 60 more kicks and 100 more handballs.

Captain for the day Jesse Corigliano was a standout down back, racking up 22 touches and 5 marks while Mark Kovacevic did well to keep and inform Casey ruckman in check.

It was a tight affair in the early stages, as the sun came out over Piranha Park. Both sides going forward early, Casey unable to fully capitalise on some poor Coburg checking.

The Scorpions proving the hungrier of the two sides throughout the opening term, with only poor accuracy robbing them of a bigger quarter time lead, 9 points the buffer.

The Lions held more of the possession to start the second quarter, however, lacked direction out of the back half, with more poor usage, allowing Casey to extend the lead to 15 points.

The visiting side then stepped it up around the ground running home another two goals in succession to take the margin to 33 points.

A late Coburg resurgence gaining some momentum back, the half time margin 27 points.

Again it would be the Lions who would start with the higher intensity, poor accuracy, the only thing stopping them from getting back into the contest.

To the Scorpions credit they well and truly wrestled back the momentum, dominating through the centre of Piranha Park to pile on 5 consecutives, blowing out the lead to 49 points at three quarter time.

The Lions showed a bit in the final term, however, it was too little too late as the damage had already been done, the Casey Scorpions running out eventual 26 point winners.
