Elliott joins Coburg’s inaugural Senior Women’s team

The Coburg Football club is pleased to announce the signing of Ciara Elliott to its inaugural Senior Women’s side.

Elliott has been playing footy since she was a teenager, but unfortunately has had a bad run with injuries in the back end of her career to date.

“I started playing (football) when I was 15, then played for a couple of years and took some time off for Year 12,” she said.

“I have had some injuries, I partially tore my ACL two years ago and then tore my ACL last year, so I’m hoping to get back to playing for the last half of the season for Coburg.”

Along with her hunger to redeem herself after a cruel injury blow, there are many reasons why Elliott is excited to pull on the Coburg Guernsey in 2021.

“I think playing for higher competition, meeting new girls and learning so much from the coaches is why I’m excited to pull on the guernsey,” she said.

Elliott comes to Coburg after playing for the Point Cook Centrals in the Western Region Football League, where she won the club’s Best and Fairest award in 2019. She is one of two current listed players to come from the Sharks, with the other being Danni-Jane ‘Deej’ Umaki. Coburg’s current assistant/backline coach Jessie Chester also played for Point Cook and is looking forward to being on the other side of the fence cheering Elliott on in 2021.

“Ciara is the happiest and kindest soul you’ll meet but once she crosses over onto the footy field the white line fever sets in,” Chester said.

“She’s competitive and hard at the footy and puts her body on the line in every minute of every game. Ciara’s an Energizer bunny and does not stop until the siren sounds.”

Elliott is an outstanding midfielder that will be a huge asset to Coburg once she recovers from her torn ACL. Her hardness at the ball is one of her strengths.

“I think what I can bring to the team is always going hard at the ball,” Elliot said. “I don’t hold back- I just go for it.”
