Experienced Nankiville joins the Lions

By Julia Montesano

The Coburg Football Club is excited to welcome forward, Jaime Nankiville to the Lions for season 2021.

Nankiville arrives at Piranha Park with a wealth of experience, having played Australian Rules football for over 10 years. The clever forward has spent most of her career playing for the Melton Centrals, where she spent a decade perfecting her forward craft. That stint included a VWFL North West Best & Fairest win as well as a Leading Goal Kicker Award, kicking 42 goals during the 2016 season. What’s even more impressive is that over one quarter of those goals came from one game, when Nankiville booted 12 majors against Glen Orden.

After leaving the Melton Centrals, Nankiville then had stints at the Port Melbourne Cooks and Point Cook Centrals, which is the same club that Coburg back line coach Jessie Chester came from. Now, Nankiville believes she has found her home at Coburg.

“I’m loving it here,” she said. “I’m loving the vibe, the intensity and the girls- everything is amazing. They’ve welcomed me as family and I’m totally stoked to be on board.”

When Nankiville first heard about the Lions, she knew that the team was pressing for a spot in the VFLW in the coming years. This motivated her to challenge herself in a new and elite football environment.

“Hearing that the club has the potential to play in the VFLW in the coming years really inspired me to better myself as a player and get amongst players that are pretty skills and have a great footy knowledge,” she said.

Rather than settling into the AFL South Eastern Women’s Competition this year, Nankiville hopes the team can live up to its full potential and bring some silverware back to Piranha Park.

“Winning a premiership at the end of the season is a pretty inspiring goal to achieve,” she said. “I think if we just get through the season as a team, we can hopefully have some wins on our side.”

Nankiville hopes she can contribute to this goal by using her speed and goal kicking on the field. Off the field, the star forward just simply wants to get to know her teammates and take each week as it comes.
