Coburg are delighted to announce the mid season signing of Sam Binion from Montmorency.
Binion is a 190cm prospect who can play at either end of the ground, and made his first senior appearance in the Northern Football League in 2016.
He was in good form with Montmorency in the opening few rounds being named in the best players five times from six games.
Previously, he was a Northern Knight who managed 15 goals from 17 games as a 19-year-old in the 2017 season, and was also named in the best seven times.
After accepting a midseason invitation to join Coburg to train, he would dramatically earn a call up as 23rd man for the Round Eight game against Richmond. Despite having only met his teammates days before, Binion would impress on the day, kicking a goal in the process. He has been named again as 23rd man for this Sunday’s game against Essendon.
Binion was delighted to have had this opportunity arose, after going back to local football following finishing his time in the TAC Cup.
“I’m looking forward to playing my role in the team and to hopefully be apart of a few wins.
It felt great being given the chance to play at Coburg. It is a really good opportunity to improve my Football as there is so much to learn at VFL level,” Binion said.
Lions GM Sebastian Spagnuolo is delighted with the midseason addition of Binion.
“We’re really pleased that Sam has raised his hand to play VFL football. We’re aware he’s a talented youngster and proud about his debut and were looking forward to seeing him more as the season goes on,” said Spagnuolo.
Binion has been allocated #48, however this Sunday will wear #40.
With Binion added to the club’s list, he replaces Dylan Stone, who has recently returned to Wangaratta due to a job opportunity.
Despite only being at the club for a short period of time, we wish Stone all the best for the future, and thank him for his time at our club.
