Goodwin To Celebrate 50 VFL Games This Sunday!

By Jack Kovacic.
After being named captain for the second year in a row, Tom Goodwin will play his 50th VFL game for Coburg when he leads the team out on Sunday afternoon against Casey.
Goodwin came to the club in 2015 after stints in the SANFL with Port Adelaide, and in the Development League with Box Hill.
Now 49 games into his career at Coburg, and despite a number of highlights including winning the 2016 Jim Sullivan Medal and representing Victoria against WA last year, Goodwin still rates the win over Richmond in his debut game as his favourite Coburg memory.
“I was well out of my depth, [but] I was really rapt to even just be on the field that day,” he said.
At 26 years old, Goodwin is one of the oldest players on Coburg’s list, and is excited by what young recruits Jack Murphy and Marcus Lentini can bring to the team this season.
“(Murphy’s) out on the wing, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how he goes about it,” Goodwin said.
“I think he’s going to have a huge impact.”
“In the last three practice matches, (Lentini) has shown a heap of talent…he doesn’t mind getting stuck into it,” he continued.
The Lions will host Casey in the season opener this Sunday, with the action kicking off at 1pm at Piranha Park.
