Coburg’s Senior Women’s team will run out for their first-ever official home and away match on the 24th of April in the South Eastern Women’s competition, with an exciting full fixture to follow.
The Lions’ journey begins against the established St Kilda Sharks on our temporary home deck at Jackson Reserve, Coburg North. Other home games that follow at Jackson Reserve include hitouts against Tyabb and Frankston on the 23rd of May and 20th of June, respectively.
Our return to Piranha Park is slated for the 4th of July against Seaford, before we end the season with three straight games at the iconic venue, beginning on the 18th of July. The opponents for those games are Mornington, Mt Eliza, and the Eastern Devils, teams which our players are looking forward to challenging themselves against.
The Burgers have been placed into the Premier Division of the AFL South Eastern Women’s competition, highlighting how highly regarded the new team is in 2021. Coburg FC General Manager, Sebastian Spagnuolo is looking forward to an exciting inaugural year ahead for our Senior Women’s team.
“Our players, coaches. staff and members had been waiting a long time for our 2021 and inaugural Senior Women’s team fixture and we’re really pleased with the outcome,” he said.
“We are very aware of the tradition that exists in the South Eastern Women’s Football League and we know that we are entering a very strong and vibrant women’s football competition that will provide many challenges for us in our first year.
“However, we feel ready to take those challenges on and have our Senior Women’s team represent the Coburg Football Club with great pride and energy.
“April 24th, 2021 will be a momentous occasion in our club’s history as the first-ever selected and official Senior Women’s team take the field for the club and with the opponent being the St Kilda Sharks, who are formerly of the VWFL competition, we look forward to a great contest.
“I encourage all Coburg FC members and supporters to head to our website and check out our Womens fixture for 2021 and get along to their games to show your support for our female football pioneers”
