JBK extends his Lions stay!

The Coburg Football Club is pleased to announce Jhye Baddeley-Kelly has re-signed for the 2021 season of the VFL and East Coast tier 2 competition.

Baddeley-Kelly became a Lion at the end of 2019, having crossed from Williamstown after one season with the Seagulls.

While he failed to make his VFL debut with Williamstown, Baddeley-Kelly continued to make a great impact at local level with North Heidelberg where he once again made the Northern Football League’s representative team that secured the 2020 WorkSafe AFL Victoria Community Championships.

Baddeley-Kelly joined North Heidelberg for 2018 after 70 appearances in the Northern Football League’s Division 2 competition with Lalor. It was during his time with North Heidelberg where he made a great impression on Coburg Senior Coach Andrew Sturgess, who had played and coached against him.

Throughout his career at local level, Baddeley-Kelly has also achieved Northern FL team of the year selection in division one and two, and has also represented the Vic Metro team on two occasions. While comfortable in defence across half back, he is also capable of playing up forward, highlighted by his 60 goals kicked at local level.

Just as it was planned for 2020, Baddeley-Kelly will be aligned to his junior club Epping when not selected for Coburg. With his signing, it means Coburg’s 40-man squad for the 2021 season is now finalised.

GM Sebastian Spagnuolo was delighted to have Baddeley-Kelly accepting the offer for the upcoming season should it go ahead.

“Jhye has been ultra patient and professional during the off season and with the new list rules for 2021 we really had a squeeze in his age bracket but ultimately we have chosen to honour his commitment to the club by extending him the opportunity to not only remain on the list but push for Coburg FC selection.

Jhye is a fantastic person and has done everything that can be done by an individual at local level over the past 2-3 seasons so we’re hoping that he gets the opportunity to make the jump and play some state league football in 2021”
