Key defender from the VAFA signs!

The Coburg Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of one of the top-line key defenders in the Victorian Amateur Football Association, with Simon Caven agreeing to terms for 2016.
Caven
A former Calder Cannon, Simon made his senior debut for St.Bernards in 2011, and he would quickly establish himself as a mainstay in the senior side as they would arise from the depths of despair in the VAFA premier B competition to one of the powerhouse sides of the VAFA premier competition.

The 2015 season was a watershed year for Simon. Playing alongside his two brothers in the backline, he managed selection at Centre Half Back in the team of the year, selection in the under 23 All-Australian side, captained the VAFA under 23 side to tour Tasmania, and played a vital role for St.Bernards as they went on to win the Premier Division Premiership. To top it off, he finished runner-up to Adam Bentick in the clubs Best & Fairest, captained the VAFA representative side in their tour of Ireland, and came sixth in the VAFA Premier Coaches MVP award.

Coburg list manager Sebastian Spagnuolo was delighted upon Simon’s signing with the club: “We were after an experienced key defender with great leadership qualities, and Simon brings that to our club having senior football experience from the strong VAFA competition, in which he also captained the VAFA Under 23 representative side.”

With the ability to compete well especially when opposed to bigger bodies, Coburg are delighted to announce that a player of Simon’s calibre has committed to the club for 2016, as it further improves our key defensive depth. We are looking forward to having Simon on board.
