Liam Whelan

Crossing over from North Melbourne's VFL program at the end of 2018, Whelan impressed with local club Old Trinity early in the season and as a result was rewarded with a debut against the Northern Blues in round eleven, as a replacement for Pete McEvoy up forward kicking a goal in the process. Possessing great speed and athleticism for his size and with the ability to play either end of the ground, it was down back where he made his mark, being named the sides best player late in the season against Port Melbourne and cemented his spot as the second key defender behind Harry Nolan. With a year at the Lions under his belt, Whelan will again be a key component of the team in 2020.
