The Coburg Football and Fitzroy Stars Football Netball Club are proud to announce that they have recently renewed the partnership between the two clubs that has been in place since 2015 when the Lions first trained at the venue.

The agreement extension will see Coburg Football Club continue to hold the majority of its Men’s team preseason training sessions at Pastor Sir Doug Nicholls Oval in Thornbury, home of the Fitzroy Stars, for the upcoming 2022 preseason and carries a possibility for the partnership to be extended for a further two seasons.

The agreement will also see a strengthening of the partnership from an administration and football point of view with the Stars to receive Coburg FC’s support for their football programs such as having Lions staff providing advice, guidance and education to Stars players and staff from a High Performance, Diet, Physical Preparation, Training and Coaching point of view and it will also see Lions players and staff more connected to the Stars during the football season too.

Coburg also stands to receive support and guidance when it comes to all matters relating to its proud participation during NAIDOC week and support for the club’s new reconciliation action plan.

Upon the execution of the agreement, Coburg FC General Manager Sebastian Spagnuolo explained “We’ve loved and respected the Fitzroy Stars and what they stand for over a number of years and they continue to be a great community partner for our club. To have access to a fantastic local oval and facility so close to Coburg without having to train around cricket wickets is a major boost for us and with this partnership extension we have found and added ways that we can give back in a greater way to show our appreciation.

The first night at Pastor Sir Doug Nicholls Oval will be Tuesday December 14th and we encourage everyone involved with the Stars to come down and say hello as we continue to build on this great partnership.”

New CEO of the Fitzroy Stars Football Netball Club, Mr. Troy Austin, also provided comment upon the execution of the agreement going on to say “the agreement between Coburg FC and the Fitzroy Stars Football and Netball Club provides our players, volunteers and coaching staff with the opportunity to development their skills under the guidance of the VFL club’s officials”.

Stay tuned for more 2022 preseason news from the Lions and Stars over the next few weeks.
