Lions attack gets a boost

Coburg shore up some of it’s goalkicking firepower with NAB League 2019 Graduates Aaron Clarke and Josh D’Intinosante have re-signed for the club for 2021, while the hard working Sam Binion has also joined them in re-committing for the 2021 VFL/East Coast tier 2 competition.

These players join Peter McEvoy and Mitch Podhajski as forwards that have re-committed for 2021.

After a standout TAC Cup/NAB League career which saw him score 42 goals from 33 games with the Jets, Clarke became a Lion at the end of 2019. A strong marking key forward, Clarke has also managed 20 goals from 12 games at senior level with Melton South in the Ballarat Football League.

“Aarons hard work and his strong hands were on display throughout the 2020 preseason and we’re really excited to see him back for 2021. When preseason training starts, Aaron will no longer the new kid to the club which will give him great confidence to attack his training and continue with his development as a young key forward,” said Spagnuolo.

Small forward D’Intinosante was another prolific goalkicker in his time in the TAC Cup/NAB League where he managed 50 goals from 32 games. He also won the Best and Fairest in his bottom age year with the Knights in 2018 and has an outstanding ability to read the play.

“JD has signed for 2 years and if the 2020 preseason is anything to go by, our Lions faithful are going to be pretty excited by JD’s talents over the next two years. His ability will go a long way to making our small forward group one of the most exciting in the competition in 2021,” Spagnuolo said.

Entering his second full season at Piranha Park, Binion was looking to build on from his 14 games in 2019 and continue to make an impact up forward. The former Northern Knight was introduced into the VFL in dramatic circumstances in 2018 after receiving a late callup as a 23rd man option.

“Across 2018 and 2019 Sam has shown tremendous ability to play a bit of a sacrificial game as a hard working forward, often creating space for others, yet with 19 games and goals to his name, 2021 should continue to provide Sam with the opportunities to hit the scoreboard and play a very important role for the team,” said Spagnuolo.

Over the next few days and weeks the club will continue to announce both re-singings and more new player signings as it prepares to succeed in 2021.
