Coburg has signed exciting young forward Ethan Redcliffe who has impressed in the Ovens and Murray Football League.

The 19-year-old has joined on a two year deal from the Wodonga Bulldogs.

In his first year of senior football in 2021, Redcliffe had the third most goals in the competition kicking 35 goals from his 13 matches. On 10 occasions he kicked multiple goals, including a bag of eight goals against North Albury in May.

Last night, the forward was rewarded for his strong season being named in the forward pocket of the Ovens and Murray Football League Team of the Year.

Redcliffe was the leading goalkicker in the thirds in 2019 with 77 goals from 19 games.

The 187cm forward was also the leading league goalkicker in the Under 16’s in 2018 with 80 goals from 15 games, averaging 5.33 goals per game.

Redcliffe said he was super excited to join the Coburg Football Club.

“I’m very grateful for the opportunity the club has given me and I can’t wait to get down there and get stuck into it,” he said.

“I’m just looking forward to playing the highest level of footy I can and also playing with my new teammates is pretty exciting as well.”

“My forward craft and skills is something that will excite the Lions members and hopefully I get my chance to show them.”

General Manager Sebastian Spagnuolo said he couldn’t wait to see where Redcliffe could take his footy with the club.

“It’s really exciting to welcome Ethan to the club and to Melbourne. He’s made the move from Wodonga to take his football to a higher level and we’re really looking forward to having him join the squad,” he said.

“Once he gets out there, our members will see an energetic and athletic left footer that knows where the goals are.”

“He’s shown in 2021 in a strong Ovens and Murray Football League that he can handle the added pressure and speed of senior football and now he gets the opportunity to make another jump up to VFL level and standards.”

“It’s never easy as a VFL club when you attempt to relocate a young person from country Victoria to Melbourne in order for them to follow their dreams so we need to acknowledge the assistance and hard work of the Glenroy Football Club, who have also played a crucial role by assisting Ethan with employment and accommodation opportunities which has enabled Ethan to make the move to Melbourne in a more seamless fashion.”
