Upon the formal agreement, Coburg FC General Manager Sebastian Spagnuolo explained:
“The club is thrilled to have Pentridge as a new partner of the club, we share a passion for wanting the Coburg community to be the best that it can be and having seen their vision for the redevelopment of the area and we are very excited to be partnered with such a professional and enthusiastic group of people that share our values.
What also struck us was the overall respect for the history of Pentridge Prison and the suburb of Coburg and how they’re very open to creating opportunities, not only to restore and preserve significant portions of the site but also show them off in an even greater light”.
With the original Pentridge being built in 1851 and our club being formed in 1891, it’s a fitting relationship between two significant members of the community that have stood the test of time in Coburg.
From an on field point of view, Lions fans will notice the Pentridge logo on the back of our home playing guernsey in 2020 which will be unveiled in March 2020, we can’t wait to share it with our members”
Michael Wade, the Pentridge Precinct Manager was asked for comment and went on to say “We are pleased to be partnering with the Coburg Lions, it just makes sense. Pentridge will be a place for the local community and the football club is a huge part of the Coburg community. We look forward to partnering with the club in 2020 and beyond”.
