LIONS ROUND OUT DOUBLE HEADER WITH FACEOFF AGAINST SEAGULLS- ROUND 16 SELECTION

By Nicholas Galea

Football will return to Piranha Park this weekend following the easing of COVID restrictions across Victoria in the shape of a double header.

The Coburg Football Club will be looking to pick up its fourth win of the 2021 VFL Season when they come up against the Williamstown Seagulls on Sunday 1st August and will be welcoming back three handy inclusions to the team.

Tom McKenzie will return to the line-up after recovering from a shoulder injury which ruled him out of the round 13 clash against the Northern Bullants.

A versatile footballer, McKenzie has established himself as an important cog in Coburg’s back six and in his eight games this season, he is averaging 15.5 disposals; reaching 20 touches in two of his last three matches, 9.1 kicks and 4.6 marks per game; which is the fifth most at the club.

McKenzie will also be joined by livewire small forward Josh D’Intinosante who will make his first appearance for the Club since dislocating his elbow against Collingwood in round four. Following his recovery, D’Intinosante has played the past three games for the West Preston-Lakeside Football Club in the Northern Football Netball League (NFNL) where he has kicked two goals in that time.

Joining McKenzie and D’Intinosante will be Jackson Davies who will play his second VFL game of the year and his first game for Coburg since his debut in round four. Davies has been rewarded after strong form for Bundoora in the NFNL after being named in the bests for his local team in three of his most recent five games for the club.

Brayden Gilliard and Jhye Baddeley-Kelly have been omitted from the round 13 team while Ryan Sturgess misses due to a quad injury.

The opening bounce is scheduled for 2:00pm.

Although footy is back this weekend, unfortunately due to State Government restrictions our loyal fans won’t be able to attend both our Men’s and Women’s games that day.

Go Lions!
