The Coburg Football Club are thrilled to announce and confirm the recommitment of Marcus Lentini for the 2021 VFL/East Coast tier 2 competition.
Since joining the club at the end of 2017 directly from the Northern Knights, in just two seasons, Lentini has established himself as one of the Lions most decorated players and premier midfielders of the competition. This includes winning a best and fairest in 2018, being runner up in the best and fairest in 2019 and also winning the Phil Cleary Rising Star Award in 2018.
Lentini has made a great impact on the competition in his two seasons, being the VFL’s leading ball winner for both disposals and contested positions in 2018 and 2019. In 2018, he led the competition in clearances while coming second in 2019. He has also been selected twice in the VFL’s team of the year and was also shortlisted for the Fothergill-Round-Mitchell medal in 2019.
Lentini joins Ballard, Bunker, Podhajski, Silvestro, Gillard, Boucher, Cleary and McDonald as it’s midfielders to have re-committed for 2021 which will be complimented further by new signings Charlie Thompson and Tom McKenzie.
Coburg GM Seb Spagnuolo was pleased to have confirmed Lentini’s re-contracting for 2021 in the new competition.
“What can you say that hasn’t been said about Marcus already? Still at 21 years of age, he’s already one the most decorated Coburg players of the past decade and he’s still got so much improvement left in him which is scary. Marcus is keen to continue to add strings to his bow and our coaches can’t wait to get back to work with Marcus to add additional layers to his number 1 strength of being the team’s major ball winner,” said Spagnuolo.
Over the next few days and weeks the club will continue to announce both re-singings and more new player signings as it prepares to succeed in 2021.
