As seen in last nights edition of “The Roar,” Coburg Football Club announce that mainstays of the senior side from the past two seasons in Keenan Posar & Mick Mattingly, will leave the club to take up work opportunities.
2017 Vin Taranto Medallist Posar had his best season in the VFL competition since crossing from the Northern Blues at the end of the 2014 campaign. Either playing off halfback or on a wing, he continued from where he left off in 2016 to establish himself as a crucial component of the side having been elevated into the leadership group at the start of the season. Posar managed his 50th VFL game in the big win over North Ballarat in Round 18.
Posar has departed to take up a work opportunity in Singapore & London for 2018 following the completion of his university degree in Teaching. Keenan managed 39 games for the club for a VFL Senior Total of 51.
Former Wagga product Mattingly had an instant impact from the time he arrived at Piranha Park at the end of 2015 following an outstanding campaign with the Northern Knights. Playing 17 games in 2016, he established himself as a crucial component in defence and was one of the clubs best first year players. Looking to move into the midfield for 2017, Mattingly was in outstanding preseason form until a severe ankle injury struck in the second pre-season game, and would only manage six senior games for a career total of 25 (Managing 2 with the Northern Blues in 2015 as a 23rd man).
Having recently finished his Bachelor of Sports Journalism, Mattingly has accepted a job in Kyabram, however it is unsure if he will play local football.
Both were great club servants in their time and we thank them for their efforts and wish them all the best for their future, & they are always welcome back at the Coburg FC.
