A number of Coburg players participated in local league matches this weekend, with ANZAC Day producing a thrilling game in the EDFL.
An honour to play on the day we pay tribute to those who fought for the safety and freedom of our country, we acknowledge the sacrifices that were made so we could enjoy the lives we live on and off the field.
Our three Lions did not disappoint on Wednesday, which saw Strathmore’s Tom Condon (one goal), and newly-signed Logan Morey outlast Glenroy and Tyson Lever by 10 points. Lever was also named in Glenroy’s best.
It was a big week for the remainder of our local boys, with only one game decided by single figures.
The Northern Football League kicked us off with Josh Iacobaccio and Bundoora starting well against Montmorency, but eventually losing by 86 points.
In the same league, Jake Page was able to play a key role for Heidelberg as they secured the win over Greensborough by 11 points, while James Svarc held his own as Northcote Park defeated Whittlesea by 12 points.
Back in the EDFL, Tom Wallis worked hard despite his Essendon Doutta Stars going down to Avondale Heights by 44 points; while Brad Bernacki put in another stellar performance for East Sunbury, kicking two goals in the four point win over Northern Saints.
Mitch Conn donned the Sunbury Lions guernsey as his side was able to take down Melton South by 17 points in the Ballarat Football League.
The Eastern Football League produced the goods with three of our boys in the one game. Connor Byrne contributed well for Balwyn as they dominated East Ringwood winning by 72 points.
The same game also saw two other Coburg representatives in Jack Sandric and Josh Weightman, playing very well on the opposition. Both were named in their sides best despite their team struggling against a strong Balwyn outfit.
In the Southern Football & Netball League, Max Mitchell-Russell was able to contribute on the scoreboard kicking one major for Port Melbourne despite their 56 point loss to Mordialloc.
