Local star becomes a Lion

The Coburg Football Club have moved closer to finalising their 2020 playing squad with the signing of Athan Tsialtas, who joins from Strathmore in the Essendon District Football League.

A Coburg resident, Athan, 23,  enjoyed a terrific 2019 EDFL season with Strathmore helping his team through to an eventual Preliminary Final loss to Aberfeldie.

It was key forward Tsialtas who stole the show and almost single handedly got his Strathmore team into the Grand Final with a remarkable last quarter on a day which included 5 goals and numerous big marks, 4 of his goals came in the last quarter.

Athan’s 2019 season included 12 games for Strathmore, 17 goals and was named in his side’s best players 7 times.

Upon receiving Athan’s pen to paper, club General Manager Sebastian Spagnuolo went on to say “Athan’s story is a remarkable one.  In 2019 he was a club member via his friendship with club Vice-Captain Jesse Corigliano and in 2020 he’ll be on the playing list. Amazing.”

“For the past 3 weeks, Athan has shown on the track that he’s physically ready to play at the next level and we look forward to giving him every opportunity to succeed at VFL within our environment.

He’s an athletic tall who loves going for his pack marks, 194cms and his Premier Division form in the EDFL suggests that he’s got the necessary tools to have an impact with us in 2020”
