Club President Matt Price has penned a letter to the Lions faithful.
To our loyal Lions members and fans,
We would like to take this opportunity to update you on the Club’s approach in responding to the COVID-19 virus.
Whilst we await further information from the VFL competition management what we do know is that we’re dealing with is something that is unprecedented and it will continue to change rapidly. So, as a Lions member, you can expect to be hearing from the club as we have updates on the situation.
We’re in constant contact with the VFL and we continue to take advice from the State and Federal Governments, as well as the relevant medical authorities including our own medical team which have already displayed tremendous professionalism and care for our players and staff.
Protecting the health and wellbeing of our players, staff, members and volunteers aswell as their family members is our first priority. With health and wellbeing as the priority, we will take the necessary steps to contain and delay the spread of the virus as a community.
The AFL have publicly made the decision to not allow fans and members to access games in round 1 of the AFL competition, due to start on Thursday 19th March.
The VFL have not yet made a decision about the VFL competition so at this stage we are planning for round 1 of the 2020 VFL season which is due to commence on April 4th. As mentioned above, this may change and if it does we will communicate with you again.
Prior to round 1 of the VFL competition we are scheduled to play Casey Demons on Saturday 21st March. The fate of that game is still to be decided but as always our members will be notified if that game is either cancelled or made spectator free.
If you have already signed up as member for the 2020 season, we’d like to take this chance to sincerely thank you for your commitment to the Coburg Lions.
Whatever the outcome of the 2020 VFL season, your contribution to the Club will prove to be extremely critical as we brace for what will be a significant shortfall in revenue over the next few months caused by the effects of this virus in addition to our 2020 season without “home” games at Coburg.
In terms of our current home here at the Coburg Bowls Club, given the venue is Council owned, we will work with our Council to understand how we can best work together to limit the amount of external visitors from outside of our club.
If you were planning on visiting our club for a membership or merchandise purchase or to watch training, we would kindly ask that you refrain from coming to the facility and purchase online instead via the Coburg FC website.
Call the club on 0455 482 026 during business hours if you have any other queries.
Once again, thanks for your ongoing support of the Lions, stay safe and healthy, and we’ll be in touch with further updates as soon as we can.
