Northern Blues Get Win Over Development Lions

Despite starting strong, Coburg’s Development Side have been defeated by Northern Blues yesterday morning by 45 points at Preston City Oval.
Kicking the first two goals of the match in quick succession and leading at the first break, it didn’t take long for the Blues to bring the pressure, the final scores 13.9 (87) to Coburg’s 5.12 (42).
Down by just 5 points at half time, the Lions were still in the game despite inaccurate kicking and costly turnovers.
But once the Blues had taken the lead, it was nearly impossible for the Lions to regain it.
Six unanswered goals in the final term to a late one from Coburg secured the win for Northern Blues, taking the Lions to a 3-4 win-loss record.
Hard running through the centre by Rivva Karpany was exciting to watch in the third, with a perfectly-weighted kick to Pat Lawlor in Coburg’s forward-50 setting them up with a scoring opportunity.
James El Moussalli got his hands on a lot of the footy, earning himself 36 disposals and nine clearances, while Alex Mioni impressed in his first game as a Lion, booting one major and notching up 22 touches.
Karl Brown up forward and Mitch Conn in the backline also played their roles in their respective zones, recording 23 touches each.
Next week will see the Development Lions take on Port Melbourne at Piranha Park, with the first bounce at 11am so ome down to show your support.
