Persistent Lions Fall Short to Casey

Despite injuries to skipper Tom Goodwin and Jesse Corigliano, who was stretchered off in the last term after his brave playing efforts, the Lions fought hard for all four quarters in their match against Casey Demons.
Ultimately defeated by 18 points this afternoon at Piranha Park, the final scores were 10.8 (68) to 12.14 (86).
A nice snap from Hisham Kerbatieh put the Lions on the scoreboard early, with Casey matching every goal from there on.
But three consecutive goals to the Demons at the start of the second term meant Coburg needed to lift.
Turning on their defensive pressure with strong tackles in the second half of play, the Lions managed to keep the deficit within 3 goals at the last break.
Quick hands through the corridor and hard running helped get the ball into the Lions’ forward-50, while late goals to the Demons meant they had done enough to secure the win.
In his debut Senior game, Sam Lowson looked strong with his defending efforts and even snapped a goal late in the third.
Kerbatieh led the way for goal-kicking with three, followed by Nick Dodge and Peter McEvoy each booting two of their own.
Liam Hunt finished the day with 34 disposals, eight clearances and a goal, with Ben Allan managing 26 touches and Nick Mellington notching 24.
Next week the Seniors will take on Northern Blues at Preston City Oval, so be there at 2pm to bear witness to what should be another epic instalment in the Battle of the Bell!
