Walker lands at Piranha Park

By Daniel Foley

Coburg has added to its strong midfield group with the signing of Lachlan Walker from the Box Hill Hawks.

After five years at Box Hill and 17 VFL matches, the 24-year-old will call Piranha Park home for 2022.

When out of Box Hill’s team, Walker played in a strong St Kevin’s FC lineup in the Premier Division of the VAFA.

Walker played three matches for Box Hill in 2021, averaging 18 touches and just under three tackles a game.

At 190cm tall, Walker has been described as a contested beast and will bolster the Lions’ midfield playing as an inside or outside mid.

Walker said he is very excited to be signing with the Lions.

“My decision to come to Coburg really came down to the people. Meeting with both Seb and Sturg they came across as great people and it’s always a good sign for a club when you have these sort of characters in charge,” he said.

“Further to that, I spoke with a number of guys that have been involved with the club or still are involved, and they spoke very highly of the group and how they enjoyed it.”

“I think I’m pretty good with ball in hand and I’ve been known to cheat forward and kick a few goals.”

General Manager Sebastian Spagnuolo said he was really pleased to have Walker join the club.

“Lachie is experienced, mature and when choosing his next club, was more than aware of our continual growth and development and is exciting to be part of where we’re headed,” he said.

“As a person we got a great feel for what Lachie is about, he plays team first football and that comes through in his selfless attitude. Position-wise, we’ll see him through the midfield but can also play at either end of the ground.”

“Flexibility, professionalism, experience and maturity are the key characteristics that Lachie brings to our club and we can’t wait to welcome him to the playing group, coaches and members.”
