YOUNG PANTHER ENTERS THE LIONS DEN

By Kelly Masters

Nick Reibelt has signed as a Lion for the 2020 season after having impressed as a Panther at Eltham Football Club.

Reibelt made his senior debut for Eltham in 2019, where he was a teammate to current Forwards Coach Michael Still, and Development Coach Brent Macaffer.

Debuting in round 1 against Thomastown, Reibelt hit the scoreboard and was named best on the ground for his performance. He completed the 2019 season with a total of 11 senior games, ten goals, and was named in his side’s best players four times.

Reibelt is a combative small forward that has shown the ability to play through the midfield too. The club is excited to provide Reibelt with an opportunity to develop his game further, as a player Lion’s fans should keep an eye on during 2020.

Upon signing with the Lions, Reibelt expressed his delight to become part of the club.

“Every part of pre-season so far has been incredible. The attitude that Sturg (Andrew Sturgess) has injected into the group is contagious. The best part about the club is that the people around have instilled monumental belief within me, allowing me to unlock the strengths of my game.

“Sturg has put a huge emphasis on enjoyment and gratitude over the pre-season, which is often wrongly overlooked in football. I’ve found it extremely beneficial to be in such a positive and uplifting environment,” He Said.

The step up to the VFL is a challenge Reibelt is looking forward to, putting in the work on and off the field.

“I’m looking to improve my ability to execute the important yet basic fundamentals of consistently under pressure. However, the biggest thing I am looking forward to working on this year is the mental side of my game. I feel like lots of footballers underestimate the power of their mind and the impact it has on their performance, so my confidence and self-belief is something I’m really focusing on this year. I’m humbled to be wearing the Coburg jumper this year and can’t wait to begin moving towards my next goals.”

Lion’s forward coach Michael Still is eager to see Reibelt’s strengths in action, now in red and blue.

Nick is a very athletic and attacking player who loves to run, carry the football, and has great foot skills. Nick has a great ability to break opposition lines with his pace and often links up multiple times in the possession chain with his work rate. No doubt fans will enjoy watching him.”

Having played alongside Reibelt for Eltham last year, Still believes Reibelt’s characteristics will make him a great asset to the team with endless potential.

“As a teammate, Nick is enthusiastic and is constantly looking for ways to be better. He has a great attitude that all the coaches at Coburg have admired in him so far.

“Nick, like many young players, needs to continue to work on strategies to help improve his consistency. If we can see Nick’s best more often, there is no limit to what he can achieve.”
