West Coburg star Abdikhane “Abdi” Fitaax has joined the Coburg Lions from the Division 1 EDFL side.Fitaax, 23, is a small forward who was instrumental in West Coburg’s Divison 1 Premiership this season, assisting the Burgers with 30 goals in 2014. Current Lions Ruairi Cleary and Omar Abdallah played in the winning grand final kicking 6 goals between them.
His Coburg connection doesn’t end there, Fitaax played for the Lions’ reserves in 2009, and has worked hard to earn a spot back on the list.
The new signing finished second in the league’s best and fairest for the second time and also appeared in the Division 1 team of the year.
Fitaax hails from Somalia and moved to Australia when he was 7 years old.
Fitaax joins Cleary, Abdallah and Jim Sullivan medalist Adam Saad as current Lions players to hail from West Coburg.
This is Coburg’s fourth signing for the 2015 season, all of which so far have arrived from the EDFL.
