The Coburg Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of the versatile Callum Urquhart from Mt.Evelyn in the Yarra Valley Mountain District Football League.
Urquhart made his senior debut for Mt.Evelyn in 2010 and has never looked back since-playing in 82 senior games with a return of 62 goals, an outstanding result for someone best utilized in the midfield.
The 2014 season saw Urquhart take his game to another level-in 21 appearances he featured in Mt.Evelyn’s best 15 times, and polled 14 votes in the league’s best & fairest, finishing in third spot, three votes behind the eventual winner. He also managed to win the club’s best & fairest award in a tie, capping off an outstanding season in which his side bowed out in the preliminary final.
To further top things off, he was named in the YVMDFL Division One team of the year on a wing, further enhancing his reputation as one of the best players in the competition, and is considered to be seen by many as the league’s best young player. He also achieved selection to represent his league for the second time, in the interleague game against the Mallee League.
While known to be a versatile player who is comfortable with playing anywhere, Urquhart added another dimension to his game in 2014-spending more time down back and being responsible at times for patrolling his side’s backline. Although he only managed a mere 9 goals for the season, Urquhart sent a reminder to what he can do up forward, managing a personal season high of 5 goals in one match.
In 2012, Urquhart was named as Mt.Evelyn’s most consistent player, and represented the league for the first time. He too has a passion for gymnastics and his spare time is devoted to coaching in the sport. Overall, we are excited to have him on board for the 2015 season.
