Keith Fewkes, Kerin Lawson and Allan Eade have been inducted into the Coburg Football Club Hall of Fame at the club’s official ceremony on Saturday Night. Former JJ Liston medallist Jim Sullivan was also upgraded to Legends’ status.
The night hosted by Lawson, began with a commencement speech from President Kevin Breen, who shared his appreciation for the club and the coaching staff following the senior team’s outstanding victory at Port Melbourne earlier in the day.
A highlights package of the 2015 season followed before senior coach Peter German spoke of the admiration he had for his players work ethic in recent weeks as well as what the legends of the football club represent.
Fewkes won the club’s Best and Fairest award in 1950 and his induction to the hall of fame was accepted by his daughters and his loving wife, as Keith sadly passed away last year.
The night was also an opportunity for a reunion of the 1970 team that won the VFA Second Division premiership, the club’s first in over 40 years. Lawson, who played in that premiership has contributed to the club for over 4 decades in a variety of roles and currently serves on the Past Players Committee.
Two time premiership player Allan Eade was the final new inductee to the Hall of Fame. The former Collingwood footballer spent several years at the Coburg City Oval culminating in an impressive resume including Reserves’ best and fairest awards and runner up in the 1987 Senior best and fairest.
However, the night’s pinnacle was the upgrading of club hero Jim Sullivan to legends’ status.
Sullivan is one of the club’s most decorated players having won the 1967 JJ Liston Trophy as well as a 1970 Second Division Premiership player. He was also named in the Team of the Century.
We would like to thank Saint Georges Reception Centre for their hospitality and serving as a fantastic venue for the night’s entertainment.
