Talented Calder Cannons defender commits for 2016.
Coburg continues to build its list of youngsters from TAC Cup side the Calder Cannons, with Jack James the latest to sign for the 2016 season.
Jack has played for the Calder Cannons for the past three seasons, after being recalled to the 2015 squad as a 19 year old. In his three seasons at Highgate Reserve, Jack managed 43 games mainly playing in a defensive role, either in the backline or as an inside midfielder in a stopping role. In 2015 he was named amongst the coaches’ best five times, two of those being named his side’s best player. He has also managed senior football for Gisborne in the Bendigo League, and played in the annual AFL Victoria Young Guns game
During his time with Calder, Jack achieved numerous awards indicating his value as a player. In 2015 he received the Phil Dunk award for the ‘best on track,’ an indication of his efforts at training. In 2014 Jack was named as Calder’s best finals player following two sterling performances in defence that contributed to Calder making the Grand Final. He also recently was awarded the Adam Saad scholarship, awarded to a 19 year old making the transition from the TAC Cup to the VFL.
With an outstanding work rate and great defensive skills, we are delighted to have attained the acquisition of Jack for the 2016 season, and we are looking forward to give him the opportunity to play VFL football.
