2015 Phil Cleary Rising Star Award winner commits for 2016.

Ben AllanThe Coburg football club are pleased to announce that the 2015 Phil Cleary Rising Star Award winner, in Ben Allan has committed for the 2016 season.

Ben managed 14 of the 18 Lions senior matches in 2015, after it was agreed between himself, the Calder Cannons and AFL Victoria that he would spend the majority of 2015 in the VFL, after being invited back to Calder as a 19 year old. Ben was named three times amongst the coaches’ best- his best performance being in Coburg’s famous win over Port Melbourne at North Port, where he managed 24 possessions and eight tackles. His form throughout the year resulted in him being awarded the Phil Cleary Rising Star Award as the clubs best first year player.

Following the Lions being ruled out of finals contention, Ben returned to the Calder Cannons where he played in their final two matches- including the final against the Eastern Rangers, where he was named amongst their best players on both occasions. Ben also played in the annual AFL Victoria Young Guns game.

Lions list manager Sebastian Spagnuolo was thrilled to have attained Ben’s signature. “After a year in which Ben played 14 Senior VFL games for Coburg aswell as representing Calder Cannons we are extremely delighted to have Ben signed on as a permanent Coburg footballer and we believe Ben can take another giant step in his development with more senior VFL football in 2016”

A Vic Metro representative in 2014, we are pleased that Ben has chosen to continue his career at Coburg, and we are looking forward to seeing him making further strides in his football and give him the best opportunity possible to achieve his ambitions.
