Coburg are ecstatic to announce the signing of young Northern Territory prodigy Michaelis McMasters!
From Alice Springs in Central Australia, Michaelis began his senior NTFL career in 2014 as a sixteen-year-old, debuting with the Darwin Buffaloes. With limited opportunities at Marrara, Michaelis moved to Palmerston for the 2016 season where he managed 20 goals from 10 matches and received an NT News Rising star nomination in his first match for the Magpies.
While Michaelis was placed on the rookie list of the NEAFL’s NT Thunder for 2015, he didn’t manage a senior game for the club. However, he still managed to represent the Thunder at TAC Cup level as well as the Northern Territory at the Under 18 championships. Throughout 2015, Michaelis managed seven appearances for South Alice Springs in the Central Australian Football League’s TIO Premier League Competition.
Best suited as either a winger, Michaelis is also capable of playing as a small forward or midfielder, and was recommended to the club by his Palmerston team mate, in former Melbourne star Aaron Davey. While Michaelis contemplated doing a pre-season with SANFL premiers West Adelaide, he opted to experience regular senior football in the NTFL with Palmerston.
Coburg General Manager Craig Lees was thrilled to have secured the signing of Michaelis. “Michaelis has strong qualities and attributes which will see him make the transition to VFL Football. He came recommended to us through our relationship with Aaron Davey and Darren Talbot, who are prominent figures in football in the Northern Territory.”
We are looking forward to seeing Michaelis progress throughout the 2016 season and having him on board.
