The Coburg Lions have announced their leadership group for the 2016 season.
Speaking in front of players, parents, sponsors and fans at last night’s season launch, Senior coach Peter German announced a 9 man leadership group.
German told attendees that he, and the coaching team had decided not to name a captain for 2016.
Instead, the captaincy will be rotated between the leadership group members each week.
“Each week a leader will be selected…Essentially it means that at any one time we may have 9 leaders on the field” said German.
Remaining from the 2015 leadership group include last year’s vice-captains, Danny Younan and Lech Featherstone, as well as Nathan Thomas.
Of the new inclusions, the major headline is Ahmed Saad, who returns to the VFL for 2016.
Joining him will be former Box Hill Hawks Tom Goodwin and Peter McEvoy and former Vermont boys Lachie Johns and Rory Lehmann.
Utility key tall Mark Orr, also joined the group as the youngest member.
There has been much speculation regarding who would Captain the side in 2016 following the retirement of Nick Carnell, as well as his vice captains in Ben Clifton and Daniel Venditti, however with this announcement the blanket is lifted.
We would like to congratulate these fine young men on their achievement, and wish them all the best in leading us in 2016!
