The Coburg Lions has had their fourth consecutive loss at the hands of Geelong on a wet and windy day for football at Simonds Stadium.
The Cats led from siren to siren, using the ball cleaner and spreading well on the wide Kardinia Park deck.
Daniel Younan was a stand-out down forward for the Lions, kicking three goals, while Lachlan Johns and Robbie Fox again led the midfield.
The opening quarter started with an end to end game early. Geelong were able to use the bigger Simonds Stadium park more effectively to get the opening three goals of the game.
Dylan Tarczon and Daniel Younan were able to capitalise on better work around the stoppages, however another red time goals would cost the Lions, extending the Cat’s quarter time lead to 20 points.
The second quarter followed the script of the first with the ball moving from end to end, and it was again Geelong who were more able to use the ball effectively around the stoppages.
The Cats kicked three goals to skip away before Danny Younan converted from the pocket in the shadow of half time to reduce the margin to 30 points.
The Lions started with better intent in the third quarter, going inside 50 multiple times, however they lacked polish when finishing, kicking two behinds as Geelong put another goal home.
Ahmed Saad capitalised on a rare Geelong turnover, but it only sparked the home team into gear, ramming home 3 more goals as the rain began to come down.
Lech Featherstone kicked his first and Younan kicked his third for the game to keep the Lions alive going into the final term, the margin back to 36 points at 3 quarter time.
It was the Lions who started with better intent in the fourth quarter, kicking the first two goals of the final term to reduce the margin to 25 points.
Geelong turned it up in the back half of the final term though, holding possession and locking the ball in their offensive 50, running out eventual winners by 35 points.
